Anderson: Ankle trouble
England's preparations for their Test series against Sri Lanka have been thrown into turmoil after James Anderson suffered an ankle injury that prevented him bowling on Monday.
Durham paceman Steve Harmison was unable to complete his bowling spell because of a back spasm in the warm-up match against the Sri Lanka Cricket Board President's XI on Sunday.
Now Lancashire seamer Anderson has become a second doubt for coach Peter Moores after being forced off the field due to discomfort in his left ankle.
Anderson felt the problem while practicing between innings and, following a discussion involving team doctor Mike Stone, physio Kirk Russell and Moores, did not bowl during the SLC Board President's XI second innings.
The England management announced that Anderson's absence was a precautionary measure.
Stuart Broad and Ryan Sidebottom, neither of whom are playing in the final warm-up, could both now feature in the first Test, which starts in Kandy on Saturday.
