Steve Harmison will join the England squad for the Test series in Sri Lanka.

A spot had been left open for the Durham fast bowler on the condition that he prove his fitness following a hernia operation.

Harmison was able to convince the selectors of his readiness with a two-match stint in South African domestic cricket for the Highveld Lions.

The 29-year-old took 13 wickets during those two games, prompting the ECB to confirm he will fly out to Sri Lanka to become the 16th member of England's touring party.

He is scheduled to arrive in Colombo on Tuesday morning.
