Owais Shah is hoping to repay the faith shown in him by England selectors and use the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka to seal a regular Test place.

"Hopefully I've put in enough performances over the last six or seven months since I started playing for England again to earn a crack at Test cricket."
Owais Shah Quotes of the week

After cementing his place in England's one-day side during the summer, the 28-year-old Middlesex batsman has now been named in the 15-man Test side for this winter's series.

Shah has hitherto made just two Test appearances, but with county team-mate Andrew Strauss omitted, the chance is now there for him to take a place in the starting line-up.

And, after being part of the one-day side that recently won a series in Sri Lanka for the first time, Shah is relishing the challenge of adapting to the Test arena.

"Hopefully I've put in enough performances over the last six or seven months since I started playing for England again to earn a crack at Test cricket," he told Sky Sports News.

"It is a form of the game everyone wants to prove himself in and I would love to get the opportunity to do so in Sri Lanka. It will definitely be a huge challenge."

Benefit

Shah also predicted that England's one-day triumph - and the chance it gave them to acclimatise - will be of benefit once battle recommences - the first of the three Tests starting in December.

He added: "Everyone is very much on a high. It is very positive after the win in Sri Lanka.

"The guys are very happy and the big thing that came out of that tour was the way the guys adapted to conditions.

"If you can adapt and learn from the opposition and beat them at their own game, as we did two weeks ago again we should have a good tour."
