Yorkshire have signed Pakistan bowler Rana Naved-ul-Hasan on a two-year deal after he was told he could leave county champions Sussex.

The Pakistan Test player played a full part in Sussex retaining their title this season, but must now leave the club with new rules restricting counties to just one overseas player.

Rana's compatriot Mushtaq Ahmed will be filling the overseas role at Sussex, meaning the paceman was forced to look elsewhere.

The 29-year-old is currently recovering from a shocking shoulder injury picked up playing for Sussex at Durham.

Rana badly damaged his shoulder while fielding at Chester-le-Street and had to leave the field in an ambulance after a lengthy stoppage to play.

Despite his injury Yorkshire were joined by Leicestershire in the race to sign Rana, with the Foxes looking to replace Stuart Broad who will join Nottinghamshire next season.

Medical clause

Yorkshire will put Rana through a strict medical exam when he joins the county next March, and his two-year contract includes a get-out clause should he fail to prove his fitness.

However, Yorkshire chief executive Stewart Regan is confident the Pakistan star will be fit enough to help the county's quest for honours.

"We are confident that, following physiotherapy over the last two weeks at Sussex, he will make a speedy recovery," Regan told the Yorkshire Post.

"We have signed him for two years subject to medical checks."

Rana, who has played nine Test and 62 one-day internationals for Pakistan, is looking forward to joining his new county next year.

"I'm excited about the challenges ahead over the next two years and look forward to playing a big part in moving Yorkshire further up the table in all competitions and winning silverware for the club."
