Swing bowler Ryan Sidebottom will sit out England's first NatWest Series one-day international against India after suffering a recurrence of a side strain.

The Nottinghamshire ace first suffered the problem during the third Test against India - and he was unable to team up with the squad at Southampton on Sunday.

Instead, Sidebottom has remained at the ECB National Cricket Performance Centre to receive further treatment.

Although no replacement has been called up to the squad, that may change after the match at the Rose Bowl - with the England medical team set to assess Sidebottom's fitness.
