Gareth Bale believes that Wales are in good stead for the qualifying stages of Euro 2016 after he starred in a 3-1 friendly win over Iceland.

The 24-year-old claimed the Man of the Match award after setting up the first two and scoring the third in a comfortable victory at the Cardiff City stadium.

Goals from James Collins and Sam Vokes, either side of an Ashley Williams own goal, had put the hosts ahead before Bale wrapped things up with a fine solo effort.

Chris Coleman's side have realistic hopes of reaching France 2016, with Bosnia and Herzegovina Belgium, Israel, Cyprus and Andorra drawn alongside them in Group B.

Qualifying gets underway in September and Bale thinks that friendly wins like this provide the perfect way to warm up for it.

"Obviously it was an important game for us that we had tonight and the next friendly to prepare for the qualifying campaign," he told Sky Sports.

"I think we made good work of it."

Speaking of his 70-minute wait for a goal, Bale added: "It was a bit frustrating that I couldn't quite get it but the important thing is that we get the win and we play well. To cap it off with a goal was nice."

After featuring for Real Madrid heavily in recent weeks, there were doubts over his involvement ahead of the game, but Bale insists he remains committed to the cause.

"I always said that it's an honour to play for my country and if I'm fit I'll come and play," he said. "I enjoyed it. I enjoyed being around the boys so it's nice to be here.

"We're a squad that's been together for a while now and hopefully we can start delivering a bit more. I think the more games we play together, the more we believe."
