Title-chasing Ajax returned to winning ways following back-to-back draws with a convincing 3-0 home victory over fifth-placed FC Twente on Sunday.

Stefano Denswil's 29th-minute strike separated the teams at the break and second-half goals from Lasse Schone (58) and Bojan Krkic (65) ensured Ajax would be celebrating an 18th win of the campaign, moving them a step closer to the title.

The result leaves the defending champions eight points clear at Feyenoord at the summit, with the Rotterdam club moving into the top two with a 5-0 thrashing of struggling Go Ahead Eagles.

Lex Immers' 13th-minute goal set Feyenoord on their way, and second-half efforts from Tonny Trindade de Vilhena (49), Jean-Paul Boetius (64), Mitchell Te Vrede (77) and Miguel Nelom (89) secured their biggest victory of the season.

In the fight to avoid the drop, RKC Waalwijk claimed a potentially invaluable win as they defeated last-placed Roda JC 1-0 away from home thanks to Romeo Castelen's 22nd-minute goal.

RKC are now five points clear of Roda and one point behind 15th-placed Go Ahead Eagles and safety

Also on Sunday, Cambuur Leeuwarden played out a goalless draw with AZ, while ADO Den Haag and PEC Zwolle shared a 1-1 draw. Maikel Van der Werff put visiting Zwolle ahead in the 20th minute but Roland Alberg levelled just before half-time for ADO.
