Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp refused to be too downhearted following their Champions League last-16 second-leg defeat to Zenit St Petersburg.

Klopp saw his side lose 2-1 to the Russian outfit at the Signal Iduna Park, with goals from Hulk and Jose Rondon sandwiching a Sebastian Kehl header.

Despite the defeat, the 2013 runners-up progressed courtesy of their 4-2 first-leg win in Russia.

And Klopp insists that losing to Zenit is nothing to be ashamed of.

"Anyone who works in football knows that Zenit aren't push-overs and the creme de la creme of European football now awaits us in the quarter-finals," said Klopp.

Robert Lewandowski, who picked up a yellow card which means he will be suspended for the first leg of their quarter-final, admits they were not at their best.

"That wasn't a perfect game, but we're through," said Lewandowski. "We know that we can play better than that."

Andre Villas-Boas will take charge of Zenit on Thursday, following the sacking of Luciano Spalletti, and that means the match was caretaker coach Sergei Semak's final game in charge.

"It was a huge task for us to come here and score three goals and unfortunately we didn't make it," said Semak.

"I have to congratulate my team on a good performance, the boys did the best they could do."
