Hibernian are reportedly the subject of a £3.5million takeover bid from a consortium led by financial advisor David Low.

Low is understood to be working with ex-Hibs chairman Malcolm McPherson and former Celtic Nation owner Frank Lynch on trying to buy the Easter Road outfit.

Current Hibs chairman Rod Petrie has faced a barrage of criticism from the club’s supporters over his handling of the club following their relegation from the Scottish Premiership last year.

And it is thought that Petrie has now been instructed by the club’s majority shareholder Sir Tom Farmer to find a buyer for the club’s parent company HFC Holdings Ltd.

“I have made an offer for Hibernian Football Club on behalf of a group of investors,” Low told the Daily Mail.

“We were encouraged to make an offer by Mr Petrie, we made an offer to Mr Petrie and we have met his nominated advisors for discussions. Beyond that, the ball is now in their court.”

However, Hibs, who are at home to Livingston in their first Championship match of the season, are pouring cold water on speculation that a takeover of the club is imminent.

“The principal shareholders position has remained unchanged for 23 years,” a Hibs spokesperson said.

"In the two months since relegation a number of people have expressed views about the club. There are no offers being actively pursued by the club or its owners."
