Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes was delighted with side’s performance as they beat Kilmarnock 2-0 on the new artificial surface at Rugby Park.

Peter Pawlett opened the scoring moments before the break while Ryan Jack headed a second 20 minutes from time.

McInnes said: "It was a far more familiar performance. We restricted them to very little, we were energetic and nice and tidy.

“I was just looking for a bit more quality in the final third and that was my half-time talk, but then Peter comes up with a real slick break.”

Regarding the pitch, he added: "It's probably the same view as I had before the game, you would always prefer grass.

"But the club have their reasons for it. I thought the pitch was dry and when the rain came, it helped both teams.

“That generated a bit more pace to proceedings and there was a slickness about the passing then.

“I think you soon get used to it and the players adjusted to it. It looks a decent surface.”

Killie manager Allan Johnston added: "There wasn't much between the teams and to lose a goal 30 seconds before half-time killed us.

“But the boys kept plugging away, there was a lot of good passing.

"I thought we just needed a bit more cutting edge, and obviously could have defended the second goal better."
