Nicky Clark has expressed his delight at scoring the winning goal in Rangers' latest match of their North American tour.

The 23-year-old striker pounced on 29 minutes, adding to an earlier Calum Gallagher goal, to complete a 2-1 success over Victoria Highlanders on Vancouver Island.

Clark, who also scored in a recent 4-2 victory against Sky Bet Championship side Fulham, told Rangers' official website, "It’s good personally to get some time under my belt on the pitch.

"We created a few chances in the first half and I was delighted to get the goal. It’s always good to score in pre-season and hopefully I can kick on now before the start of the season and get a few more.

"It was a good start from us tonight and Calum scored a good goal but maybe a wee bit of slackness kicked in and we gave them quite an easy goal.

"But I thought we responded well and got another one. We could probably have played a wee bit better but it’s a pre-season game."

The son of former Rangers striker Sandy Clark, who scored 22 goals in 64 appearances for the Championship new boys, was impressed by the performance of the Highlanders.

"There’s no point in coming over and playing teams who aren’t fit and can't compete with us," he said.

"I think in the last three games all the teams have competed well and that can only be a good thing. It’s made us have to work hard and press teams. So they were decent again tonight and it was a good game for us."
