Fraser Aird and Jon Daly were on target as Rangers booked their spot in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup with a 2-0 victory over plucky Albion Rovers.

The League One champions dominated proceedings at New Douglas Park although it took nearly an hour for the pre-match favourites to open a two-goal cushion over the part-timers from Coatbridge.

The opening goal came in the 18th minute when Callum Gallagher's cross was acrobatically hooked home by fellow teenager Aird.

Rangers continued to pile on the pressure during the remainder of the first half but were unable to extend their advantage.

Bilel Mohsni flashed wide on 27, Ryan Donnelly almost headed into his own net, while Gallagher fluffed a great chance three minutes before the break.

Albion's best chance of the game came as early as the 22nd minute when David Crawford forced a good save out of Cammy Bell.

More good opportunities came and went in the second half for Rangers before Daly doubled the margin.

From Richard Foster's cross, 12 minutes after the break, Daly rose highest on the edge of the six-yard box to place a firm header beyond the reach of keeper Neil Parry.

Rangers could have added further goals, while the final quarter of an hour in Hamilton was largely an anti-climax as the Glasgow club coasted over the finishing line to set up a semi-final tie at Ibrox with Premiership side Dundee United.
