Steven Finn: Middlesex bowler back in England squad
Steven Finn has been recalled to the England squad for the fourth Investec Test against India.
The Middlesex paceman has replaced Liam Plunkett after the Yorkshire bowler was ruled out due to an ankle injury.
Plunkett experienced some discomfort in his left ankle after the second Test defeat at Lord's and sat out the third Test in Southampton, which England won by 266 runs to square the series at 1-1, as a result.
The problem has still not completely settled down so Plunkett will now also miss the fourth Test which starts at Old Trafford on Thursday.
Finn, 25, endured a torrid time in Australia over the winter, with his bowling regressing to the point where he was deemed unselectable, despite England suffering an Ashes whitewash defeat.
However, he has shown signs of his best form on his return for Middlesex this season and that has convinced the England selectors that he deserves another chance on the international stage,
Finn has taken 90 wickets in 23 Test matches for England at an average of 29.40, while he has claimed 44 wickets for Middlesex in 10 County Championship Division One matches this season at an average of 29.72.
Middlesex director of cricket Angus Fraser said: "Steven's call up is thoroughly deserved and is reward for all the hard work he has put in over the past six months.
"During the summer his bowling has continued to improve and he has met and come through every challenge that has been placed in front of him.
"Congratulations must go to Steven and (Middlesex bowling coach) Richard Johnson for getting to this position. I am extremely proud of the work they have done as Steven was not in a very good place at all when he returned from Australia in January."
Finn was scheduled to be playing for England Lions in the triangular series against New Zealand A and Sri Lanka A and he has been replaced in that squad by Warwickshire fast bowler Boyd Rankin.
