Brentford have signed Portugal Under-21 striker Betinho from Sporting Lisbon on a season-long loan.

The 21-year-old came through the ranks with the Portuguese club and he was part of their team which finished third in the NextGen Series in 2012/13.

That tournament, for Academy teams of some of the best teams in Europe, was driven by current Brentford manager Mark Warburton and he is delighted with his latest signing.

Warburton told the club's website: “Betinho is a very talented striker that first came to prominence in the NextGen Series for Sporting Lisbon.

“He is quick, strong and technically gifted and he shone in very good team that included João Teixeira, who is known to Brentford fans.

“Betinho had a spell out on loan last season and we have moved to bring him to Brentford.

“We are looking forward to him making a positive contribution in the season ahead.”

Betinho has played for Portugal at every age group from Under-15 upwards, scoring 26 goals in 57 games, and he also weighed in with 16 goals in 49 games for Sporting B in the Portuguese Second Division.
