Rotherham manager Steve Evans finally gets his man - late on transfer deadline day
Rotherham United have signed young Oldham Athletic striker Jonson Clarke-Harris for an undisclosed fee which is reportedly a club record.
The 20-year-old joins the Millers after agreeing personal terms late on transfer deadline day.
Manager Steve Evans told the club’s official website: “Jonson is a lad we tried to sign prior to moving to Oldham Athletic so as night follows day we have tracked his progress at Boundary Park with real interest.
“Last season he produced a number of stunning performances and it is no surprise that he has today been subject to a deadline day move to play Championship football.
“I am delighted Rotherham United has won the race for his signature."
And in the opposite direction, Rotherham midfielder Michael Tidser is off the Boundary Park on loan.
The Glasgow-born player heads into League One and Evans added: “I spoke with Tids after training and he indicated that he would like to take up the opportunity to move to Oldham Athletic which allows the lad to get the competitive first-team action he desperately desires.
“There is no doubt that he will play a key role for Lee Johnson’s side in the next few months and I would expect he will become a firm favourite with the Oldham supporters.”
And the Millers have added Norwich City striker Luciano Becchio on a long-term loan deal.
Evans went on: “This is a lad who at Championship level has a CV that says simply ‘I score goals’.
“Luciano is a talented lad who will again compliment the playing squad we have assembled at New York Stadium.
“We must take this opportunity to thank our chairman Tony Stewart and vice-chairman Richard Stewart for their support.
“The two new signings are a further sign of the progress Rotherham United has made in the last two years."
