AC Milan youngster Zan Benedicic has confirmed he is on the verge of completing a loan switch to Leeds United.

Leeds are reported to be closing in on a deal for the 18-year-old playmaker and he returned early from Milan’s pre-season tour of America, where he was an unused substitute in their 3-0 defeat by Olympiakos.

Benedicic, who is yet to make a senior appearance for the Italian giants, has represented Slovenia at Under-21 level after glowing reports for Milan’s Under-19s.

He told Il Calciofilo: "We are waiting for all the documents and the last confirmations, then I will sign. I am one step away from becoming a Leeds player. This opportunity is very good to me.

"They wanted me intensely and I have always liked English football. My first goal? To achieve a place in the starting XI."

Milan boss Filippo Inzaghi is reported to have rejected the possibility of a loan exit for Benedicic earlier in the summer, but agent Amir Ruznic confirmed that a move to Leeds could now be done.

"The clubs are talking. He is back from the States and I hope to have news in the next few days," he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The Whites have already made four summer signings from Italian football, with Marco Silvestri, Tommaso Bianchi, Souleymane Doukara and Gaetano Berardi all arriving.
