Hull manager Steve Bruce has confirmed forward George Boyd is likely to join Premier League newcomers Burnley.

A £3million fee is thought to have been agreed between the two clubs and the 28-year-old is expected to undergo a medical at Burnley on Sunday ahead of signing a three-year contract at Turf Moor.

Speaking after his side lost 2-1 at Aston Villa, Bruce said: “It looks like Boydy will go to Burnley. We allowed George to speak to Burnley and personally I wish him well.

"He got an offer of a three or four-year contract at Burnley and the chance to play.

"But I've been in the game a long time and if all professional footballers were like George Boyd my job would be easy."

The former Peterborough forward joined Hull on a permanent basis last year after initially signing for the club on a loan-basis while they were in the Sky Bet Championship.

Boyd rose to prominence at Peterborough where his goalscoring exploits at London Road – 74 in 290 appearances – earned him a move to the KC Stadium.

The forward was unable to reproduce the former he showed in the Championship during his first season in the top flight, scoring just twice in 29 league games.

Boyd has started just once for Steve Bruce’s side this season, in the 1-0 Europa League qualifying defeat at KSC Lokeren.

Bruce also confirmed the club have signed Cork City defender Brian Lenihan, although the 20-year-old is likely to go straight into the club's development squad rather than challenging for a first-team place.

"Lenihan is done and dusted. He's one for the future," added Bruce.
