Norwich City have confirmed midfielder Wes Hoolahan has signed a two-year contract extension with the club.

The deal keeps the 32-year-old Irishman with the Canaries through to the end of the 2016-17 season.

Speaking to the club's official website, Hoolahan said: "I'm delighted to have signed.

"Obviously last year it was a bad season for me but I came back in for the pre-season and the manager spoke to me and talked me through his plans.

"Now I just can't wait to get started and I'm delighted to be here for another couple of seasons."

The deal draws a line under a turbulent period in East Anglia for Hoolahan.

A lack of first-team opportunities under then manager Chris Houghton resulted in Hoolahan submitting a transfer request.

He was linked to Aston Villa, a move which would have seen Hoolahan join up with former Canaries boss Paul Lambert.

City boss Neil Adams explained that Hoolahan was in his plans for the forthcoming season and expressed his satisfaction at his decision to stay at Carrow Road.

"I'm absolutely delighted Wes has agreed to sign a new deal," he said. "He's a fantastic player who can make a big impact for us this season and he will be an integral part of our squad."

During his six seasons at Norwich, Hoolahan has made a total of 213 appearances, scoring 37 goals in all competitions.
