Neil Warnock enjoyed his first game back as a Premier League manager after Crystal Palace snatched a last-gasp 3-3 draw at Newcastle United.

Palace twice went ahead at St James’ Park, but it looked like Mike Williamson’s close-range finish two minutes from time was going to give Newcastle a first win of the season.

However, Wilfried Zaha, who also only returned to Palace earlier in the week, fired home an equaliser five minutes into added time to secure the club’s first point of the season.

“I really enjoyed it,” Warnock told Sky Sports. “I don’t think the players could have given me anymore, that’s all I can ask as a manager.

“We’ve got a little bit of ability as well. I said to them before that we haven’t come up to make the numbers up, so let’s have a go.

“Somebody told me we had never come back from a goal down so we showed a lot of resolve and I’m absolutely chuffed for them.”

Zaha also had a goal disallowed for offside and Warnock was happy with the contribution of the substitute, who has rejoined Palace on a season-long from Manchester United.

Warnock added: “I’ve always loved Wilfried. He was just a young lad when I was here before. You’ve got to be a good player to wear boots like these lads.

“He was unlucky not to score before, and that would have been 3-1 and game over, but that’s how it goes.”
