Steve Parish: Sensible approach to recruitment
Steve Parish is hoping to bring 'bigger named' players to Crystal Palace in the future but says the club must build sensibly.
For the time being, Palace’s focus is on Premier League consolidation – following one season back among the elite.
That means much of their transfer focus has centred around players that know the league and are proven performers at that level.
A deal for Liverpool defender Martin Kelly is believed to be close to completion, while Southampton’s Jack Cork and Stoke City’s Steven Nzonzi have also been heavily linked with moves to Selhurst Park.
Parish is hoping to get more of those deals done before turning his attention to high-profile acquisitions further down the line.
Palace’s co-chairman said in the Croydon Advertiser: “There are too many clubs chasing too few players of known quality, when you know they can do a job for you at a certain level.
“We’re confident we’ll be more or less where we want to be kick-off time, maybe a little bit behind.
“As we move forward, we’ll be going in for the players who are more well-known, the more bigger named, that kind of thing.
“It’s been 10 years we’ve been out of this league, we haven’t been in it very long and it’s the first time we’ve been here for a second season.
“We need to consolidate and then we’ll push on from there.”
