Southampton have made a bid to sign Salzburg midfielder Sadio Mane, according to Sky sources.

The south coast Premier League club have offered the Austrian side £11.8million for the Senegal international.

Mane, who represented his country at the 2012 London Olympics, moved to Salzburg in September of that year from French club Metz.

Last season the 22-year-old was a major figure, scoring 13 goals as Salzburg clinched the league and cup double in Austria.

Southampton are also close to agreeing deal with Atletico Madrid for central defender Toby Alderweireld.

The 25-year-old Belgium international has also been linked with Sunderland and Newcastle but Saints appear to have won the race for his signature.

Alderweireld, who has 37 caps, moved to Spain on a four-year contract a year ago, but failed to earn a regular starting spot with Atletico, making just 12 appearances last season.
