Craig Gardner: West Brom midfielder backing Alan Irvine
Craig Gardner believes it is ‘rubbish’ that new West Brom boss Alan Irvine has to quickly win over the fans.
Irvine replaced Pepe Mel at The Hawthorns in the summer and has picked up two points from his opening three Premier League games.
Following draws with Sunderland and Southampton, Irvine’s side lost 3-0 at Swansea City on Saturday, but summer signing Gardner is adamant it is too early to make any judgements.
“We’re only three games into the season,” said Gardner. “That’s rubbish. The way he is on the training field and in the dressing room is brilliant.
“He’s great with the lads. He’s a brilliant coach and tells us what to do and knows football inside out.
“Swansea are a good passing team, they keep the ball, rotate and are like Porto.”
He added: “Everyone in the changing room is disappointed.
“We’ve had a good start to the season and we went to Swansea and got beat 3-0. But we’ve got to pick ourselves up now and go again.
“We’re all in it together, there’s no ‘I’ in team, there are no individuals, we’re all a team and we have to respond as a team.
“I just want to say thanks to the fans for travelling and supporting us and singing for us, we want to put it right for them and go forward.
“It’s not the end of the season, it’s not over, and we have to build and move forward.”
