Joleon Lescott: West Brom defender hurt his knee against Nottingham Forest

West Bromwich Albion boss Alan Irvine is hopeful that summer signing Joleon Lescott has not suffered a fresh injury setback.

Lescott, who joined West Brom on a free transfer from Manchester City, has been struggling with a calf problem, but was fit enough to appear as a half-time substitute in Saturday's friendly at Nottingham Forest.

However, the centre-half was forced off before full-time due to a knee problem and Irvine is optimistic that Lescott has not picked up a serious problem.

"I've spoken to Joleon and he feels OK," said Irvine.

"He just felt something on the outside of his knee. He felt it when he was warming up and when he cleared from the corner of the pitch he felt it go.

"He was a little bit worried about it at the time but it has settled so hopefully it's nothing too bad."

Lescott’s fellow defensive recruit Sebastien Pocognoli was also hurt during the 1-0 defeat at the City Ground.

Irvine added: "Seb had been complaining in the first half about being a bit tight in his groin and hips. We did a bit of work on him at half-time and then, of course, he got clattered going for a header."

Meanwhile, Irvine confirmed he is still in the market for new signings, saying: "We're still looking for players in wide areas.

"You can see we've got some lads having to play out of position - like Craig Gardner and Graham Dorrans - not because I want them to play out of position but because that's where we are at the moment. 

"Everyone knows we didn't have any full-backs and any wide players at the beginning when I first came in. We've now got a better full-back situation but even there we're still a bit light."
