Bolton manager Neil Lennon has confirmed he will appeal any ban which may be handed out to him after he was sent to the stands in his side’s 1-0 win at Birmingham on Saturday.

The former Celtic boss only took over at the Macron Stadium on October 12 but he was asked to leave the technical area after straying onto the playing surface one too many times in his first game in charge of Wanderers.

Lennon has not yet been charged with any offence but, as he indicated after the game, he will look to overturn any subsequent ban he may receive.

“There was a huge break in play and I am just stood two, three yards on the pitch trying to get a message across to a player,” Lennon said of the incident that led to his censure.

“She (fourth official Amy Fearn) went ‘right, I’ll call the referee over’ and I was sent to the stand. I thought it was a little bit over the top.

“There was no bad language and it was all done in humour when we were talking to the fourth official.

“There was no remonstration with any of the Birmingham officials, backroom team, Clarky (former Birmingham boss Lee Clark) himself or their players.

“I didn’t understand the sending off at all and if it’s going to be a ban or the likelihood of a ban, then I will strongly appeal it.”
