Blackpool are considering offering terms to Jonathan Legear, with it up to the Belgian midfielder to prove his fitness.

The 27-year-old has spent the last two weeks training with the Sky Bet Championship side in an effort to earn a permanent contract.

A man capped on two occasions by his country, and with UEFA Champions League experience to his name from time spent at Anderlecht, is available as a free agent after severing ties with KV Mechelen.

He is a player Blackpool boss Jose Riga knows well and, having expressed a desire to bring fresh faces into Bloomfield Road, is one the second tier strugglers are giving serious consideration to.

I want to bring players to the club, believe me. The problem is I’m not sure everyone else wants the same.

Riga told the Gazette: “He’s a very good player, with lots of experience at just 27.

“He was part of one of Anderlecht’s best ever teams and played in the Champions League.

“I know him and it’s clear the player is looking to work with me. I spoke to him and we agreed he would come here for us to have a look at doing something together.”

Riga added: “I don’t want to talk about the last clubs he’s been to but he was faced with difficulties. The first step for him is to be fit, so he’s come to train with us and maybe be part of our project.

“It’s a deal I couldn’t ignore as a manager. He’s a very interesting player.

“It’s too early to speak about the possibility of him coming but we will see. I don’t hold the keys to this deal yet but I hope something can be done.”

Riga is looking for chairman Karl Oyston to back his efforts to bring in new recruits, with it his opinion that more could have been done at boardroom level to offer him much-needed strength in depth.

He said: “It’s about the will to bring players to the club.

“I want to bring players to the club, believe me. The problem is I’m not sure everyone else wants the same.

“I have made propositions to bring players to the club but I am still waiting.

“The longer we have waited to sign players, the more difficult it becomes.

“The players aren’t on the market who were there two months ago.”
