Paddy McCourt has picked up an injury which threatens to wreck his chances of earning a contract at Brighton & Hove Albion.
The 30-year-old forward has spent the past week training with Brighton in the hope of landing a full-time deal.
He was involved in an U21 fixture against Southend on Wednesday, but it was in that contest that he suffered a knock.
McCourt is now nursing an ankle complaint which will prevent him from taking a full part in training or forthcoming matches.
That leaves him in a difficult situation, with time running out for him to impress Brighton boss Sami Hyypia.
“He’s going to be here for a few more days and then we will make a decision,” Hyypia told The Argus.
“He played but unfortunately he twisted his ankle a little bit, so he didn’t play as much as I would have wanted.”
