Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini says he is confident that England goalkeeper Joe Hart will sign a new contract at the Etihad Stadium.

Hart's current deal expires in the summer of 2016 but negotiations to extend his stay are ongoing and Pellegrini expects no hitch.

"I think it's an issue that we're talking about," the City boss said.

Manuel Pellegrini is confident Joe Hart will sign a new contract at Manchester City.

"I think in the right moment, (we will) have the right solution. I think Joe wants to stay here and we want him to stay."

Pellegrini dropped Hart for a spell last autumn after a series of high-profile errors but the 27-year-old responded well and, after helping City to the Premier League title and Capital One Cup, has continued his good form into the new term.

"He is not responding to the challenge of Willy, he is responding as the No 1 goalkeeper as England," Pellegrini added, when asked if he thought the summer signing of Willy Caballero might have provided extra motivation for Roy Hodgson's first-choice keeper.

"Except for the first three months of last year, Joe Hart always puts in a very good performance."

Should Hart sign a new deal, he would follow team-mates Samir Nasri, Aleksandar Kolarov, David Silva, Vincent Kompany, Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko, who all agreed fresh terms in the summer.
