Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini was very pleased with their 3-1 win over West Bromwich Albion.

After their recent slip-ups against Sunderland and Liverpool, City returned to winnings ways with victory at the Etihad.

City saw all three of their Argentine stars get on the scoresheet in the first half as Pablo Zabaleta and Sergio Aguero put them 2-0 up, before Martin Demichelis restored their two-goal lead after Graham Dorrans' goal had briefly threatened to pull West Brom back into the game.

"We made a very good first 45-minutes," Pellegrini told Sky Sports.

"We scored three-goals and had more chances to score - maybe the goal made us a bit nervous, and the second-half we were not so clear with the ball but we kept the result and that was the important thing."

City are now within six points of leaders Liverpool, with a game in hand, but Pellegrini does not think the title race has altered as a result of their win.

"It [title race] is the same way before we played it, but we have three points more - if Liverpool win their three games and 14 games in a row they are champions, but our job is to win our games and Liverpool will feel some pressure. It is always difficult to finish the season and we just have to do our work."

Aguero

Aguero was starting only his second game in three months, grabbing his first goal since January and Pellegrini admits he is a huge player for City.

"Kun is a top player, he makes the difference - that is why playing this year without Kun for 12 or 14 games without him is a very important advantage," he said.

Aguero was taken off early, but the Chilean insisted there was no injury concern.

"Sergio does not have a problem, but we thought 60 - 70 minutes and the way he plays always running it was we wanted, we wanted him to have more minutes but at this moment not 90 minutes."
