Louis Nicollin: Glad he resisted Newcastle's bid for Remy Cabella
Montpellier president Louis Nicollin admits he is relieved that he snubbed a £6.5m bid from Newcastle for midfielder Remy Cabella.
Following the injuries to France's Franck Ribery and Clement Grenier, Les Blues boss Didier Deschamps has opted to call up Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin and Cabella as their replacements for the World Cup.
Following the decision to take the Montpellier playmaker to Brazil, Nicollin says he's glad that he rebuffed the Magpies' earlier bid for the 24-year-old.
He told the French newspaper Midi Libre: " It is very likely that I'll go and see all the matches of the France team now.
"It's nice because it shows the quality of our training.
Remy Cabella: Targetted by Newcastle
"I did well by not selling him to Newcastle for €8 million."
Sky Sports understands that discussions are still ongoing regarding the sale of Cabella to Newcastle, with the Ligue 1 club holding out for at least €10 million for the Ajaccio-born midfielder.
Newcastle failed with a bid for Cabella in January, but have since re-opened talks with the Southern French outfit.
