Swansea City manager Garry Monk has confirmed that a new contract will be put to midfielder Ki Sung-yueng.
The 25-year-old spent the 2013/14 campaign on loan at Sunderland, helping them to preserve their Premier League status.
It was, however, former Swansea boss Michael Laudrup that deemed him surplus to requirements at the Liberty Stadium, and the Dane has since moved on.
Monk is now at the helm and he is prepared to offer Ki a clean slate.
He believes that the South Korea international is yet to experience the ‘real Swansea’ and hopes to convince the former Celtic man that extending a deal that is due to expire in the summer of 2015 would be beneficial to all concerned.
Monk said: “I’ve said how important Ki is to us, what a good player I think he is, and what he can offer us.
“Obviously his time at Swansea since he signed for us has not hit its full heights, for whatever reason, but for me he hasn’t seen the real Swansea. I’d like to show him that.
“I want to keep him here. He’s a very good guy, a good professional, so, yeah, we’ll be trying to make him an offer to keep him at Swansea City.
“You have to be confident. I’ve had good chats with him.
“Obviously, Ki was at the World Cup. We’d like to have got something sorted earlier, but that’s the way it’s gone.
“We’ll sit down over the next week or so and try and sort out a deal to keep Ki at the club.”
