Police have confirmed they made six arrests in the build-up to and during Arsenal’s Champions League match with Galatasaray at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.
Prior to the game flares were thrown near to the Tollington pub on Hornsey Road, and two men were later arrested before the game for attempting to enter the ground with flares.
Four other arrests were made for a range of offences, including one supporter arrested for being wanted on warrant, one for criminal damage and another for throwing a flare onto the pitch.
Several flares were thrown on to the pitch from the Galatasaray fans’ section during the first half of the game, temporarily bringing a halt to proceedings and prompting riot police to create a perimeter around the away end.
At one stage, Galatasaray midfielder Wesley Sneijder and goalkeeper Fernando Muslera went over to the away section to call for calm from their club’s supporters.
Police will review CCTV, both from inside the stadium and the surrounding areas, in order to identify anyone who committed offences.
UEFA have confirmed it will review the complete report compiled by its match delegate before making any decision over whether to take some form of action.
