Arsene Wenger: Arsenal boss wants to see a stronger title challenge this season
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has warned the rest of the Premier League title challengers his squad are better prepared this season.
The Gunners produced an emphatic display in their final warm-up game to beat Cologne 4-0 in Germany with summer signing Lukas Podolski scoring twice against his former club.
Podolski is just one of three major signings to arrive at the Emirates Stadium this season with Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla also expected to make a big impact.
Although the futures of Robin van Persie and Alex Song remain in doubt, Jack Wilshere is expected to return to fitness before the end of the year and Wenger is confident his side can mount a stronger challenge.
"We want to and we have a desire to," Wenger told the club's official website.
"We are up for it and what we want is to come out of the season and know we have given our best.
"I feel we did that last year, finishing third with the start we had.
"The first target is to do as well as we can in every single game and see where we stand at the end of the season, but of course we want to fight for the championship.
"We are in a much stronger position now because last summer we lost (Samir) Nasri and (Cesc) Fabregas, and on top of that we lost (Abou) Diaby and Wilshere (to injury).
"We lost four players at the start of last season and that is not the case this time."
