Well Christmas is nearly upon on us and I am delighted that I can say that with us sitting in such a healthy position in the league.

I don't think many people would have predicted us to be involved in a title challenge let alone a promotion bid - but here we are in second.

I think the next month for us is huge given the games coming up, we have the likes of Carlisle, Hartlepool and Nottingham Forest - who will all be looking to be challenging us in the coming months.

It is a big month as always around Christmas and I will be hoping to be involved as I have been kicking my heels on the sidelines a bit, but at times if the lads are winning and doing well there isn't too much you can do about it.

The gaffer is quite good about it and he explains things and encourages you and just tells me to carry on working as hard as I am. I know the chance to get back in will come sooner rather than later, but it is always frustrating for any footballer not to be playing.

Busy time

As I said Christmas is very busy for us and that does mean the training on the 25th - which I know many people still don't realise we do, indeed many years we also have to travel. Luckily this year we have Bournemouth which isn't a bad trip so we will probably be setting off on Boxing Day for that.

Actually the hardest time around now is New Year's Eve - that is when it really kicks in about being a professional footballer. We have a game on New Year's Day so there is definitely no drinking and we are lucky to even see midnight. It can be hard when all your mates are out and you are trying to sleep but can't because of all the fireworks

But that is just one of the few things we have to give up whilst playing football - I am pretty used to it now having been involved with the first team since I was 16 and we have quite a while to enjoy these things to the full once our careers are over.

I can though confirm that I have been very good this year and bought all of my Christmas presents! Mainly because I don't know when the gaffer will be having us in - so better safe than sorry.
