Routledge: New Villa signing

Aston Villa have completed the signing of Tottenham winger Wayne Routledge for £1.25million.

The former Crystal Palace man passed a routine medical earlier on Wednesday before becoming Villa's first signing of the transfer window.

Routledge, who spent the whole of the 2006/07 season on loan with Fulham, has penned an 18-month contract at Villa Park.

The 23-year-old joined Spurs in 2005 from Palace, but ended up making just five Premier League appearances - mainly due to the form of Aaron Lennon.

Routledge could now make his Villa debut against his former club Fulham at Craven Cottage this weekend.
