Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has insisted that winger Sylvain Marveaux is still an important part of his team.

The 26-year-old Frenchman has started just three times for the Magpies this season and has not featured for them for over a month.

Marveaux has also suffered from injury, but Pardew claims that the former Rennes man could be asked to play at any time.

"Sylvain is not out of the equation," he told the Evening Chronicle. "At any time he could be called upon. I have no fears or bones about putting him in.

"He is trying to earn his place. Sammy Ameobi and Fergie (Shane Ferguson) have done well and they are both in his position. Gabby (Obertan) has also been doing well."
