Newcastle United midfielder James Perch is delighted to have proved the club's critics wrong so far this season.

Before the start of the 2012/13 season, there were doubts on whether Alan Pardew's squad has enough depth to cope with the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League.

So far the Magpies have proved their detractors wrong, and Perch is pleased with their performance.

"I think we've surprised a few people by how much strength we've got in and around the first team," he is quoted as saying in The Daily Star.

"With playing in Europe, the manager has had to make a few changes, but lads like Shane Ferguson and Sammy Ameobi have come in and played perfectly.

"The season is beginning to look good for us. We haven't conceded a goal in Europe, the strikers are scoring goals and the young ones are all pushing their claims."
