Real Madrid have confirmed that new signing Hamit Altintop is to have back surgery.

The Turkey international is suffering from a disc problem which has not been resolved by conservative treatment methods.

The 28-year-old midfielder will have an operation in Germany on Monday, with no time frame given yet for the recovery period.

Altintop struggled with back pain while with his former club Bayern Munich last season.

He is one of three new arrivals at the Bernabeu this summer with coach Jose Mourinho having so far signed Altintop's fellow Turkey midfielder Nuri Sahin along with Spanish striker Jose Callejon.
