Third-choice keeper won't travel for Tuesday's qualifier

Tim Wiese will not travel with the Germany squad to Azerbaijan due to an illness in his family. The Werder Bremen goalkeeper has been given permission to leave the group ahead of their departure for Azerbaijan, who they play in a Euro 2012 qualifier on Tuesday. The 29-year-old's exit left coach Joachim Low with 16 outfield players and two goalkeepers, although Wiese had been Low's third choice behind Manuel Neuer and Rene Adler. Midfield trio Bastian Schweinsteiger, Christian Traesch and Sven Bender have already been ruled out through injury, along with forwards Miroslav Klose and Marco Reus. Germany needed a last-minute winner from Mario Gomez to claim a 2-1 victory over Austria in Vienna on Friday night. That made it six wins from six in their Euro 2012 qualifiers, putting the 2008 runners-up seven points clear at the top of Group A with four games left.
