Yorkshire Jets vice-captain Natalie Haythornthwaite has been voted The Netball Superleague Player of the Season.

Natalie, who plays at Goal Attack and Wing Attack, was named the standout player of the 2015 campaign following a public vote run by Sky Sports ahead of this weekend’s Superleague Grand Final. The award was presented following the game at The Copper Box Arena on London’s Olympic Park.

The 22-year old has been hugely influential for the Jets during this season, helping them reach the competition’s semi-finals for the first time. She has also been selected by England Netball to join the World Cup warm-up series against Trinidad and Tobago.

Natalie was one of five players on the shortlist selected by Sky Sports Netball experts Anita Navin, Stef Bello and Natalie Seaton.

Natalie said: “I’m over the moon to have been named the Netball Superleague Player of the Season.

"There are so many amazing players in every team in the competition and I am honoured to have been selected to be one of the top five by experts in the sport and then voted the winner by fans.

"Thank you to everyone who’s taken the time to vote for me, I’ve been humbled by the kind comments and support.

More from Netball Superleague

“I’ve always been proud to wear the Yorkshire Jets dress but this year has been particularly exciting with a team spirit and desire to be as good as we can both on and off court. Reaching the semi-finals, for the first time, is a testament to this effort.

Yorkshire Jets Head Coach Anna Carter added: “I remember Natalie from coaching her first netball session when she was eight years of age. She was passionate about netball then and is passionate now – the sport has no better ambassador.

“She is a leader on the court and off for Yorkshire Jets so this award is no more than she deserves. It is an amazing accolade to be the best of the 120 brilliant players from the UK and around the world who make up the Superleague.

“Every Yorkshire Jets coach, player and supporter is proud of everything she has achieved.”
