Valentino Rossi admits he feels like he has "never been away" after his first few days back with the Yamaha team.

The Italian legend starred for Yamaha between 2004 and 2010, before a hugely disappointing two-year spell with Ducati, chalking up just three podiums.

The seven-time MotoGP champion has been lured back to Yamaha where he will partner world champion Jorge Lorenzo next season.

He has been testing in Spain with Yamaha and he told Gazzetta dello Sport: "It's a return for me, and the feeling was like having never been away.

"After seven years spent here there are many people I know already."

He has not been able to spend much time on his new bike because of heavy rain, first in Valencia, and then in Aragon.

"We've moved from Valencia to Aragon because we were hoping for good weather. Instead we have found more rain," said Rossi.

"And to add insult to injury - because we needed to test two or three important things to work on next year's bike - good weather returned to Valencia.

"We needed to get some mileage in the dry, instead we'll have to wait for next year before getting to the track again.

"The bike different from the one I had ridden - it has a more powerful 1000cc engine - but as for the rest it doesn't seem so different from back then."
