Ireland will begin their A1GP title defence in Australia next month when the World Cup of Motorsport returns for its fifth season.

A1GP 2009/10 Australia, 25 October China, 15 November Malaysia, 6 December South Africa, 28 February Brazil, 14 March Mexico, 21 March Portugal, 11 April Germany, 2 May The Netherlands, 16 May

The new nine-event calendar is still subject to FIA approval but looks set to encompass a wide range of countries, with four new race meetings for the 2009/10 season.

Australia, Brazil, Germany and the Netherlands are all scheduled to host their debut A1GP race with China, South Africa, Portugal, Mexico and Malaysia also set to stage the international contest.

Last season Ireland's Adam Carroll sealed the title for his country at the season decider at Brands Hatch but Switzerland and Portugal will again be strong while Great Britain will be eager to improve on their tenth place.

A1GP Chairman, Tony Teixeira is eagerly anticipating the new season. He said: "It is easy to put out a calendar too soon and then have to make changes. I wanted to make sure we avoided that and so give our broadcasters, teams and fans something realistic.

"I also wanted to make sure the racing was good and varied. I am confident this calendar, that may still include at least one more event, will achieve our criteria for the series."
