Frankie Edgar outpointed Urijah Faber in the Philippines before demanding the next crack at the featherweight championship.
Edgar could face Conor McGregor if the Irishman is successful in his title fight against Jose Aldo this summer.
Edgar edged a close fight over Faber as the UFC came to Manila for the first time, winning all five rounds on all three judges' scorecards although it wasn't as one-sided as the 50-45 scoreline might seem.
The 33-year-old winner established himself as the quicker fighter although Faber always carried a threat with his power. Edgar's takedowns largely swung the fight in his favour although he was rarely able to control his opponent on the ground in a tightly contested scrap.
Edgar used his post-fight speech to grab absent UFC president Dana White's attention.
"I want that title, man," he said. "I know Dana's not here - again. I don't know if he's ducking me because he owes me a title shot."
Previously, 'the Filipino Wrecking Machine' Mark Munoz ended his veteran career in impressive fashion by beating England's Luke Barnatt.
Inspired by his home crowd, Munoz dominated all three rounds against the Cambridgeshire middleweight to win a unanimous decision before an emotional retirement speech ended with him dramatically leaving his gloves in the Octagon.
