A dominant Yvan Muller claimed pole position for the eighth round of the World Touring Car Championship at Curitiba.

Frenchman dominates practice and qualifying in Brazil

A dominant Yvan Muller claimed pole position for the eighth round of the World Touring Car Championship at Curitiba. Muller, who boasts an 18-point lead at the top of the drivers' championship, clocked a fastest time of 1 minute 22.51 seconds in qualifying at the Brazilian venue. The three-time WTCC champion had already been fastest in the two practice sessions, clocking best times of 1:22.689 and 1:23.124. Factory Chevrolet drivers claimed the top three spots with Alain Menu taking second place behind Muller and Britain's Rob Huff in third. Michel Nykjaer in a privateer Chevrolet claimed fourth. SEAT driver Gabriele Tarquini was fifth after losing out to Nykjaer on the last lap of qualifying, with another Chevrolet, that of Britain's Alex MacDowall, in sixth.
