Montreal's P.K. Subban scored the overtime winner to give the Canadiens a 2-1 win over Nashville, costing the Predators a chance to take the NHL Western Conference lead before the All-Star break.

Montreal's Alex Galchenyuk also scored while goaltender Carey Price made 37 saves in his return after two games out injured and Mike Ribeiro found the net for Nashville who have lost back-to-back games for the first time this season

Tampa Bay rose to the top of the Eastern Conference with a 4-1 win against Vancouver with their eighth-straight home win. Alex Killorn had two goals, Valtteri Filppula added a goal and an assist, and Brian Boyle also scored for the Lightning, who lead the New York Islanders by one point.
                  
The Canucks had to wait until late into the third period to score through Frank Corrado. 

Detroit overcame a shaky finish to beat Minnesota 5-4, with Gustav Nyqust and Pavel Datsyuk scoring in the shootout.
                 
The Red Wings had one just once in eight previous shootouts this season, but came away with their fifth consecutive victory overall. Nyquist also scored in regulation, but the Red Wings blew a 4-1 lead in the third.
                  
Zach Parise scored twice for Minnesota, but missed his attempt starting the shootout. Mikko Koivu, who also scored in regulation, had his shootout attempt stopped.
                  
Boston goaltender Tuukka Rask made 36 saves to help the Bruins win 3-1 at Dallas.
                  
Rask allowed the game's first goal by Vernon Fiddler in the second but Loui Eriksson tied it for the Bruins and they went ahead through Gregory Campbell.

Philadelphia's Claude Giroux scored in overtime to give the Flyers a 3-2 win over Pittsburgh in a fight-filled game between the fierce rivals which had one ejection and 93 penalty minutes.
                  
New York's Carl Hagelin deflected in Derek Stepan's slick backhand pass in overtime to complete the Rangers' come-from-behind 3-2 win against Ottawa.
                  
Chicago's Andrew Shaw broke out of a scoring slump with two goals as the Blackhawks routed Arizona 6-1.
                  
Edmonton's Teddy Purcell scored the decisive goal in a shootout as the Oilers won against the odds at Washington, coming from two goals down late in regulation and ending the Capitals' run of seven-straight home wins.
