Great Britain's men's and women's team pursuit squads are both in medal contention after the opening day of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The women's quartet of Laura Trott, Elinor Barker, Katie Archibald and Ciara Horne qualified fastest with a time of 4min 20.066sec, which was six and a half seconds faster than second-placed New Zealand. Britain will now face China in the next round on Saturday night.

The men's quartet of Steven Burke, Andrew Tennant, Jon Dibben and Mark Christian qualified second fastest in 3min 57.661sec, half a second adrift of pace-setters Australia. They will now face the Netherlands in the next round, again on Saturday night.

Britain's men's team sprint squad also qualified for the medal finals, but the women's pair were eliminated at the first hurdle.
