Dwyane Wade will extend his career with the Miami Heat into a 13th season after agreeing terms on a one-year $20m contract.

The deal could mean Miami entering the 2015-16 season with the league's best back-court as, earlier in the week, they also spent $90m to lock up point guard Goran Dragic for the next five years.

Miami have also joined the race to sign prized free agent forward LaMarcus Aldridge, with club president Pat Riley set to have dinner with the Portland superstar, who is almost certain not to return to the Trail Blazers.

Wade, at 33, had one of his best seasons in 2014-15 but the Heat were still unable to make the play-offs in their first year since the departure of LeBron James.

“It has been an honour and a privilege to play with the Miami Heat the past 12 years,” Wade said in a statement.

“The Heat family and I have shared incredible moments over the years, and I look forward to continuing our journey.
