Matt Kuchar: A fine third round of 68

Matt Kuchar played himself into title contention with a hat-trick of birdies on the back nine to reach five under par after three rounds at the Masters.

Starting the day on level par, the American gradually played his way into the mix and after dropping a shot at the difficult 11th reeled off birdies at the 13th, 14th and 15th.

The latter hole saw him play a nerve-jangling chip from over the back of the par-five to six feet, before draining the putt.

"The 15th has given me some trouble this week, I've been in the front water, the back water and today in was between clubs," he said after carding a 68.

"I made the safe play but that chip was not where you want to be. I went with a risky shot and it came off perfectly.

"I feel like one of those guys who is on good form and I've been playing good golf for a couple of years, it's been a fun run and it's exciting to have a chance to play for the title here at the Masters."

Kuchar played another fine chip to save par at the 17th but was fortunate to only drop one shot at the last after his lengthy par putt was stopped by the hole.
