Masters: Ian Poulter tore into himself after a disappointing third round

Ian Poulter said he was 'disgusted' with himself after settling for a two-under-par 70 in the Masters at Augusta.

The Englishman sits off the pace on level par after a round that saw him get to two-under for the tournament through 11 holes.

However, bogeys at the 12th and 14th robbed him of momentum and without birdies at the two par-fives it amounted to a case of 'what might have been'.

"It was headless. I've done it on the first day, I've done it yesterday and I've done it today," he said.

"I got into position, hitting great golf shots and then didn't take advantage of the ones I should like at 13 and 15.

"Mistake on 12, I pulled a wedge and made bogey and then made bogey on 14 so yet again I've shot 70 and I'm disgusted.

"There's still a chance but I shouldn't be in this position. I'm disgusted and I should have been a lot closer to the lead so I'm going to have to go chasing the leaders on Sunday."

His good friend Justin Rose also played himself to the fringes of contention with a 69 that took him to one under par.

A long putt for eagle at the 13th made the round and he holed another monster after narrowly avoiding going into the water at the 15th, before giving it back two holes later.

"I think if I just boil it down to maybe the last couple of holes, I would love to have snuck a couple or been a couple better going into tomorrow," Rose said.

"There's a lot of players I think going to be in with a chance tomorrow. Anybody under par going into tomorrow has a good shot."
