THE MASTERS 2014

  10 - 13 April

Rory McIlroy

It's different than any other golf course, because you have to play so many shots. You have to bump it up hills or you might have to land it up on top and try and spin it or get it to stop. There's so many different variations, and I think you have that to have a good imagination for it, as well.

- McIlroy's first impressions of Augusta after a practice round ahead of his debut in 2009.

Yeah, 13, I've got quite a high ball flight, so I can take it over the tree on the left. I don't have to try and hook it around the corner. It gives me a bit of an advantage there.

- 2009. McIlroy picks out the 13th hole as his favourite and the one he feels he can overpower. He went onto eagle it in his second round.

If there's anything slightly off with your game then Augusta certainly magnifies that situation and makes it look worse that what it actually is. I just missed the greens on the wrong side a couple of times and short sided myself, then having no chance of getting up and down for pars. I was very disappointed to miss the cut at Augusta as it was my first missed cut in a major.

- McIlroy reflects on his missed cut at Augusta in 2010.

I've been saying it all week, I feel comfortable, comfortable with my game, comfortable with the way I've prepared, and all of a sudden I'm finally feeling comfortable on this golf course. A combination like that, you know, you're going to feel pretty good and post some good numbers.

- McIlroy's thoughts as he heads into the final round with a four-shot lead in 2011.

I thought I hung in pretty well the front nine today. I was leading the tournament going into the back nine. Just hit a poor tee shot on 10 and I just sort of unraveled from there, just sort of lost it 10, 11, 12, and couldn't really get it back. I've got to take the positives, and the positives were I led this golf tournament for 63 holes. You know, I'll have plenty more chances. I know that.

- Speaking on his meltdown in 2011 when, with one arm in the Green Jacket, he collapsed to a final round 80.
