Jason Day: A brilliant runner-up on his Masters debut in 2011

Many players struggle to translate their strong regular Tour form into good performances in the majors, finding the step up in class and extra pressure too much to handle.

Fact Box

  • Day finished runner-up on both his Masters and US Open debuts in 2011 and also made the top 10 in his first appearance at the USPGA in 2010.
  • Day was born in Queensland to an Australian father and Filipino mother.
  • Day and his wife Ellie are expecting their first baby the week before this summer's Open Championship.

Not so Jason Day.

The young Aussie has taken to majors like a duck to water and in just six starts can already boast a tied 10th and two second places.

He first made a strong challenge at the 2010 PGA Championship and then got right into the mix on his Masters debut last year, finishing tied second, just two behind winner Charl Schwartzel who birdied the final four holes.

And while Rory McIlroy was never going to be reeled in at Congressional, it was Day who kept his focus to produce another excellent Sunday display and post a runners-up finish for the second major running.

Augusta National looks a great fit for his game as he hits the ball right-to-left and has one of the best short games around.

His fearless attitude is another major plus although another second place in this year's Qatar Masters shows that the 24-year-old from Queensland has yet to develop the winning habit.

It does seem only a matter of time before he adds to his one PGA Tour win and it would hardly be a surprise if his next victory is a major.
